Contract-based Editorial and Administrative Assistant: Facts & Frictions/Faits & frictions journal

J-Schools Canada/Écoles-J Canada is looking for a contract-based assistant who will provide casual editorial and administrative support for our academic journal, Facts & Frictions/Faits & frictions. Ideally, the candidate will be a student enrolled in graduate studies at a recognized Canadian academic institution, with a specialization in journalism and communications. 

Your role:
  • Regular communication with the editor-in-chief
  • Monitoring emails and assisting with responses on a weekly basis 
  • Tracking the progress of authors, peer reviewers and copy-editors in a spreadsheet
  • Assistance with preparing articles for publication, social media posts and a monthly e-newsletter update
  • Assistance with meeting and workshop planning
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and qualifications:
  • Ability to communicate clearly and promptly
  • Excellent English-language skills; ability to work and communicate in French is an asset
  • Some familiarity with academic research
  • Familiarity with using Google Drive, Google Sheets and WordPress
  • Familiarity with locating open-access images that can be used online

Hours: 50 hours over 4 months, averaging 3 hrs/wk flex time

Work term: March 1 to July 1, 2025

Compensation: $1,500 total, invoiced at $375/month
